About

The Edible Schoolyard at the Greensboro Children’s Museum is an official affiliate of Alice Waters’ original Edible Schoolyard in Berkeley, California. We broke ground in September 2009 when Alice Waters came to Greensboro. Our Grand Opening was May 22, 2010. The Edible Schoolyard team at the Greensboro Children’s Museum believes that understanding and participating in the seed to table process helps children develop emotionally, physically, intellectually, and spiritually.

We offer children interactive experiences that focus on fresh seasonal food, health, wellness and outdoor play. Children learn the process of food production in the museum’s 1/2 acre educational urban farm and teaching kitchen. Through participation in after school classes, weekend programs, community events, and summer camps students engage in the seed to table process.  Partnerships with local schools and community organizations allow the museum to provide regularly scheduled field trips featuring seasonal lessons and/or games related to current classroom studies.

      Hi, Laurie,
What age group are you working with? We have a kitchen that we use for some after school programming, but since we are not in a school, I am not sure how much help I can offer in that setting. There are some schools in Greensboro with kitchens that students use in conjunction with their gardening programs. If you contact me through efarlow@gcmuseum.com, I can put you in touch with some teachers at two schools that have kitchens for student/teacher use.
      Thanks,

      Hi Kimberley,
Do you get the weekly e-blast from the museum? We publicize that way, as well as on our website. What sorts of events interest you most? Garden, kitchen, family, or grown ups only? I will be sure to pass your contact information along to our marketing team!
      Eleanor
