Yesterday we had a wonderful field trip group who came for a Seed to Table program in the Edible Schoolyard. The students were 4th graders who had a wide range of experiences with gardening, cooking, and poultry handling. We took them on a two-hour journey of discovery about “Plants on your Plate” through hands on learning about edible parts of plants, the way we grow and prepare food, and how their senses and their “common sense” can help inform their palate. Looking back over many years of teaching in various settings inside and out, I’d rank this in my top five best days ever as a teacher! Thank you OLG students, teachers, and chaperones for being our first official Seed to Table field trip!
